What I Learned from Rice Pudding

by Nils

Not far from my apartment in New York City is a shop that sells rice pudding. The minute you look at the store you know they spent lots of time and money to build the place and their location is prime. It’s actually hard to imagine how they could afford to stay in business selling only 1 thing which is rice pudding in about 20 flavors.

While I have never thought to myself “Gee, I could really go for some rice pudding” I have to admit their pudding is exceptional. (mmmm sarap) Not just the pudding but everything! The store design, the signage, the bowls and spoons and of course the service. You can have your pudding delivered, shipped or to go. If you decide to eat in the store you can even watch custom pudding animation and videos! No detail is overlooked.

One of the first things new customers say when they visit the store is “You know what else they should sell….” followed by something like ice cream or cupcakes. The suggestion being they will make more money if they had more products and that they are missing out on an opportunity. While guess what…being the best at pudding is their key to success.

The most difficult thing to do when you run a business is to say“no.” A million people will have a million suggestions of ways you should go with your company. “Just imagine all the things you could do!” Maintaining focus is tough. Sticking with a plan is tough. And taking your product or service beyond the edge to make it rock and develop a cult following is even harder.

At Arytywe want to be the best at keeping people connected to their loved ones’ by helping them to send load home. We are going to continue focusing on finding ways to make using Aryty more innovative, easy to use, reliable and all at the lowest prices possible. Load is Aryty’s rice pudding. :D

And what this small store taught me was that maintaining laser focus, being exceptional at whatever you do and making customers passionate about your service is not only a great strategy but can be very rewarding too. Their name says it all!

  1. Hi Nils!

You’re right – Rice to Riches is really good. While visiting NY last Dec 06, we had the priviledge of visiting that store and having a taste of one of their puddings – i had cheesecake pudding (yum!). For us Filipinos, the most common pudding would be chocolate – which we call champorado.

Anyway, it’s cool that aryty is applying the same focused determination in serving the Filipino needs.

    Paalam at salamat!
