Great Seeing You at Fiesta Filipina
by ClarissaWe just got back to New York after spending the weekend in San Francisco at Fiesta Filipina. It was 2 amazing days of food, music and chatting with Aryty customers and friends who stopped by the Aryty booth to say hello. We also gave out Globe promos and free load for Filipinos living in the Bay Area to send to their loved ones in the Philippines.
We will be posting lots of pics and video from the event in the next day for you to check out or leave a comment. Here’s a few of the Aryty team.

Fiesta Filipina 2007, San Francisco
by ClarissaI just arrived in San Francisco with some of the team for Fiesta Filipina 2007. The event will run June 16th and 17th at the Civic Center Plaza from 10am-6pm and is the largest Philippine Independence Day celebration in Northern California.
This is the second year Aryty has attended the Fiesta Filipina to let Filipinos know how easy it is to send Globe, Smart or Sun load to the Philippines. The weekend should be filled with great Filipino food, crafts and artistas performing from the Philippines! If you get a chance to come out make sure to stop by our booth and say Kamusta!
Nice to be back in San Francisco

Hope to see you there!

Cabbing it with James Hong
by ClarissaI just arrived back in New York after a 20 hour trip home from the Philippines. (-o-) I managed to share a cab to the city with James Hong co-founder of Hot or Not who couldn’t resist logging into his Facebook account on the taxi ride via a Sprint Wireless card. During the trip to Manhattan we discussed the new Hot or Not application for Facebook which is just one of the new features James and his team have released recently.
Hot or Not is a top interent destination and also happens to have lots of beautiful filipina’s on the site. If you haven’t met a beautiful girl from the Philippines check out Hot or Not and try their Meet Me feature. You never know.

OFW’s in Japan
by ClarissaI am on the way to the Philippines and have stopped over in Tokyo for a few days of rest and Nike Love. One of the first things I was reminded of upon arrival in Japan is the global reach of OFW’s.
It is estimated that over 200,000 Filipina OFW’s work in Japan as entertainers sending home more that a half billion dollars to their families in the Philippines. As the economy in Japan continues to improve there will probably be an increasing demand for even more labor from the Philippines. Not just entertainers but caregivers as well due to the aging population in Japan.
With so many Filipina’s sending money back from Japan I am sure they would love an easy way to buy load or send load to family in the Philippines. Maybe it’s time for Aryty accept Yen!

Teresa Herrera- Model, Actress, Designer and Friend from the Philippines
by ClarissaSeveral years back I was introduced to Teresa Herrera by a good friend in Hong Kong. Teresa had just arrived in NYC for acting and we’ve been close friends ever since.
Teresa is an amazing Filipina blessed with multiple talents. While she is best known for her work as a model with appearances including Elle, Harpers and Cosmopolitan magazine she is also an actress working on multiple projects in L.A.
Spending her time between the U.S. and the Philippines, Teresa is constantly on the go pursuing her passion for travel and fashion. Recently she teamed up with Philippine designer Rajo Laurel to launch Isla Resort Collection, a luxury clothing line inspired by the islands. The collection is perfect whether you’re headed to St. Barts, Boracay or just being fabulous for a weekend in East Hampton! A cup of Isla and you’re half way to St. Tropez.
Teresa Herrera looking very Grace Kelly in Isla!

I am sure we’ll see lots more from this beautiful Filipina. Keep it up Teresa and let you me know next time you go to the Philippines so I can send you a load!

Nagpapanggap (A Filipino Short Playing @ Tribeca Film Festival)
by ClarissaThe Tribeca Film Festival was started in 2002 by Robert De Niro in an effort to revive lower Manhattan after the attacks of 9/11. Since that time the festival has showcased hundreds of movies by talented producers from around the world.
This year the festival is showing Nagpapanggap, a 20 minute short directed by Debbie Formoso. The movie was shot in Quezon City and is making its’ premiere at the festival.
Lourdes is a teacher, a mother and a wife. Always placing others first, she is determined to help the women around her. But faced with the possibility of her husband’s infidelity, can she find the strength to help herself? Set against the backdrop of 1960s Philippines, Nagpapanggap portrays a woman’s struggle with social mores and the compromises she must make to salvage her ethics and her own sense of worth.
The movie is in Tagalog and lucky for me has subtitles. If you live in New York there is one showing left on May 6th at 4:00pm. Hope to see you there! Aryty?
Way to go Debbie. Napakagaling mo!

Tagalog Cheat Sheet
by ClarissaI love to mix it up a bit with Tagalog or Taglish phrases and words. Lately I’ve been getting emails asking if I’m Filipino or even better emails which are written only in Tagalog! So I thought I’d set the record straight and let you know “Hindi po ako Pilipino!”
Here’s my language trick for those of you that might not speak Tagalog but would like to learn some conversational phrases.
You won’t find any J-lo inside but will learn some great practical phrases especially if you have a Filipina girlfriend that you want to chat with.
So next time you’re sending an eload to your loved one in the Philippines make sure to let them know “Miss Kita” too!
