Steve Kuban, one of most renowned Christian recording artists in the Philippines and Canada, will perform on Sunday, May 18 following a special Sunday Mass at the Meadowlands Expo Center. The Mass will begin at 10 AM (details update at www.pinoymusikfestival.com) and Kuban will take the stage at 11 AM.
The Pinoy Musik Festival will be held May 17th-18th at the Meadowlands Expo in Seacacus New Jersey. Superstar Sam Milby will be headlining with performances from favorites including MYMP, Kris Lawrence, Divo Bayer and Pork Chop Duo. I was watching an episode from Bravo’s Top Chef Season 4 today and saw Dale, a Pinoy sous chef at Buddakan who came out on top in a tough competition.
Dale is a 1st generation Fil-Am from Chicago who now lives in NY. He does a great job representing Pinoy pride as he mentions Filipino culture and the influence it has had on his interest in cooking and cuisine. His favorite dish? Kare-kare, the ox tail stew with peanut sauce. mmmm sarap!
I’m sure Filipino’s will be eagerly watching and giving Dale their support as he competes to be the next Top Chef! How cool would it be if he went back to the Philippines once the competition was finished to open a restaurant. It would be a hit without a doubt!
While checking in for my flight last week from San Francisco to Manila I was not allowed to get on the plane due to the expiration date of my passport. Apparently if your passport expires in less than 6 months the Philippine government can fine the airline if they send you through and their immigration turns you away upon arrival for any reason. Unfortunately for me my passport expiration was in 5 1/2 months!
When the agent told me this at check in I was like “serioso ka ba?” and they told me no chance! Left with no choice I had to get a new passport and rebook my flight. The passport agency in SF expedited my passport for about $130 and I got it back that afternoon. With my new passport in hand I left for Manila the next day.
If you plan on travelling to the Philippines make sure your passport doesn’t expire in less than 6 months from your date of travel and if it does make sure to get it renewed before your trip. Coincidentally the woman sitting next to me on the plane was heading to a nursing convention in Manila and encountered the same problem. Travelling isn’t getting any easier but it’s was nice to go back to the Philippines!

Last week a few of us from Aryty stopped by for a tour of the ABS CBN offices in California. TFC (The Filipino Channel) is the core product of ABS CBN.
TFC became popular in thousands of Filipino households across America for broadcasting hit shows like Wowowee, Bandila and TV Patrol from Manila. ABS also produces top shows like Myx, Citizen Pinoy and Balitang America in their Redwood City studios which play on TFC and are also favorites among Filipinos in the states.
The ABS headquarters houses other products and services such as their music and dvd sales, telecom distribution and balikbayan shipping operations. The facility is truly state of the art and very impressive to visit.

JayR the Fil-Am R&B Prince performed at Kapuso Fever in Las Vegas last weekend. While the Aryty Team was busy giving out free Smart, Sun and Globe load to attendees at the event I made sure to take a break to enjoy his performance as I am definitely a fan.
